Implemented by the central sector of the government of India, Scheme for Agro-Marine Processing and Development of Agro-Processing Clusters (Sampada) was approved in May 2017 for the year 2016–2020. Since then, the scheme has been renamed as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana.

Objectives

The primary aim of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana includes supplementing agriculture; modernizing processing, protocols, and tools; and reduce/eliminate agriculture-generated waste.

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana is an umbrella scheme that covers the following schemes:

  1. Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure
  2. Food Safety and Quality Assurance Infrastructure
  3. Mega Food Parks
  4. Infrastructure for Agro-processing Clusters
  5. Creation or Expansion of Food Processing and Preservation Capacities
  6. Scheme for creation of backward and forward linkages

Moreover, human resources and institutions are covered.

Budget

The total budget of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana is Rs. 6,000 crore. The budget is expected to leverage an investment of Rs. 31,400 crore. Under this scheme, 334 lac MT agricultural produce, valuing Rs. 1,04,125 crore, will be handled. The scheme will benefit over 20 lac farmer families and create numerous employment opportunities in the financial year of 2019–2020.

The scheme will provide better rates to farmers, doubling their income. Moreover, the scheme will raise agricultural processing level and quality, avail safe processed foods at reasonable rates, and eventually, increase the export market of processed foods.
