In these trying times, every convenience is welcomed with alacrity. People are in a panicked situation. In such times, any and every relief from the government feels like a blessing in disguise. One such boon from the government is the benefit under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.

What does this scheme provide?

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana allows beneficiaries of a total of three LPG cylinders. These cylinders would be 14.2KG in weight; the standard cylinders. These cylinders, up until June 2020, would be provided for free to the Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries.

This allowance of LPG cylinder was announced by the Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman and this was brought in place to deal with the economic impact that the coronavirus lockdown is having on the masses in general.

This scheme came to the light right when the country needed it the most. It is a reflection of the government’s strategy in battling the virus outbreak: precautionary measures today ensure a better tomorrow.

And while all its efforts are directed towards healthcare and mitigating the number of infected citizens, the government is also trying to make sure that the poor of the country does not suffer because of the lockdown.

Parting thought

With the current allocation of 1.7 Lakh crore towards public welfare, the government is trying everything it can to bring this pandemic to an end. And while the measures to ensure that may seem too harsh to the masses, this is the surest method of battling the disease as of now.

With the Ujjwala scheme, every house has ample resources to at least put food on the table.
