The Delhi government is getting on board with digitisation – which just seems to be the word of the year so far. Getting things online makes them incredibly accessible and a lot more secure than having to physically store them somewhere – where they can be ruined or tampered with.

Land records are of utmost importance, and misplacing these documents can have serious repercussions with a long-lasting impact. To make the process a lot more accessible and a lot more secure for the people of Delhi, the Delhi government has decided to make the process digital and digitise land records online.

Through the e-Abhilekh platform, documents are now digitised and people will get access to documents relevant to them with just a simple click of the mouse.

Access land records online through the Delhi Archives portal

The Delhi Archives platform hosts a collection of over 4 crore images, maps and other archival information which dates back all the day to FY 1803. This exhausting resource protects the heritage of the people at the Delhi Archives and is currently being, very meticulously so, digitised for public access so that people would not have to worry about their documents being misplaced. Neither would they have to go through an extensive procedure to peek into their documents for land-related procedures like buying or selling property.

The details of how ownership is transferred from one landowner to the other is also mentioned in the Delhi archives portal. People can get a copy of the land records for personal purposes for a nominal fee. The land records are available at the Delhi Archives and belong to the people and can be used for purpose of research as well as by the residents who are looking at land for administrative purposes.

Up until now, round about 2 crore documents have been scanned out of which 60 lakh documents have been tagged, uploaded and are ready to be accessed online through https://archives.delhi.gov.in/delhiarchive/.

The  Delhi Archives portal has over 60 lakh digitised old records for the general public to access with the click of a mouse. Over the months, the state government ensures that more documents will be added to the archive portal each day.

Summing it up

With the world turning to more digitally feasible options, archiving land ownership documents seems to be the obvious next step in the right direction. To make it all the more accessible to the people, the deputy Delhi CM has demonstrated how the search engine works by searching the property details of a former PM, a popular film star and a former bureaucrat and got pinpoint accurate results.

The Nodal office has been digitised and preserved under the Registration wing of the Revenue department. This specific department has Sale and leases deeds of all properties in Delhi.

It has to be noted that the Wills registered with the department and special and general power of attorney which are confidential in nature have been spared from digitisation and will not be put up on a public forum, to be viewed by all, thereby maintaining the confidential nature of things.
