Farmers have usually had a tough time making ends meet. Their worries have multiplied manifold ever since the Coronavirus outbreak, and this has left the farmer community largely dishevelled.

The West Bengal government, acknowledging the worries of the farmers in the state have launched a financial respite scheme. This scheme would offer financial assistance to farmers so as to set up micro-irrigation facilities. This scheme would be known as West Bengal Krishi Sech yojana 2021.

About the West Bengal Krishi Sech Yojana 2021

This scheme would mainly ensure that farmers can cultivate their land using less amount of water. Farmers in West Bengal, quite like farmers all over the country, suffer to make ends meet. With meagre rainfall, things just go from bad to worse for them. Through the implementation of the scheme, the scheme will provide necessary help to small and marginal farmers in areas where rainfall has been underwhelming.

The scheme will help farmers in the Jangalmahal areas, Purulia and Bankura districts as these areas receive meagre rains. The Micro-irrigation facility will make sure that the cultivation of crops, especially fruits and vegetables which require lesser water goes on uninterrupted.

Implementation of the WB Krishi Sech Yojana 2021

To implement the scheme, drip and sprinkle irrigation methods will be used for the cultivation of more acres of land using less water. Research suggests that these are processes that are helpful in the cultivation of crops with lesser water consumption. The cost of installing a drip irrigation mechanism costs ₹70,000 and the Sprinkle irrigation mechanism will cost ₹20,000 per acre of land, however, these mechanisms will be installed by the state government free of cost for farmers.

The state has earmarked ₹35 crores for the implementation of the scheme.
