To commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of First Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, the government of India, on the 14th of November 2014 launched the National Bal Swachhta Mission.
What does the National Bal Swachhta Mission entail?
The National Bal Swachhta Mission is a scheme aimed to be a nationwide sanitation initiative of Swachh Bharat Mission which was launched by the Prime Minister on the 2nd of October, 2014.
There are six main sub-sections that fall under this scheme:
- Cleaner anganwadis
- Cleaner surroundings like playgrounds, school fields, etc.
- Focus on personal hygiene and child health
- Clean sources of food
- Safe and clean drinking water
- Cleaner sanitation
How would the National Bal Swachhta Mission be implemented?
The Mission has been implemented by the Women and Child Development with help pouring in from departments like School education, urban education, drinking water and sanitation and information and publicity.
The scheme would aim to implement its objectives on a day-by-day basis for six days. These would be carried out as follows:
- 14th November: Clean schools, surroundings and play area
- 15th November: Clean food
- 17th November: Clean self
- 18th November: Clean drinking water
- 19th November: Clean toilet.
Eligibility criteria for the scheme
In order to partake in the noble cause, the eligibility criteria are simple:
- Scheme is eligible for government schools all over India
- All anganwadis in India are automatically eligible for the scheme
- The National Bal Swachhta Mission is eligible for the state, district and even Gram panchayat level.
