Support to Training and Employment Programme for Women or the STEP scheme is an employment generating scheme to empower women financially and socially throughout the country.
Women have, for the longest time, have been subjects of oppression and inequality at workplaces. At the onset of the 21st century, the situation has finally changed and the government is bringing in more such schemes for the welfare of women.
Highlights of the STEP scheme for women
Under the STEP scheme, assistance will be provided to women across various sectors. Skills related to specific sectors will be imparted to women so that employment and entrepreneurship is sufficiently harboured among women in areas that need it the most.
Some of the sectors included are agriculture, horticulture, food processing, tailoring, handlooms, stitching, embroidery, zari work, etc.
Except for these, skills and training will also be provided in the computer and IT sectors so that women feel empowered in the modern ways of functioning and running a business.
Target group for the scheme
The scheme primarily aims to target women who are in the age group of 16 years and above as these women are in need of these skills.
Skills are essential for the progress of any individual at any walk of life. With apt training and imparting skills, the Government is making sure that the future gets to see the rise of women who are determined to bring about progress in the nation and who work with an iron-clad will; where nothing deters them from their goals.
