Housing undoubtedly stands to be an essential need, after all, a roof over your head is something we can all be grateful for. However, this is a privilege not everyone gets to enjoy and there are millions of people in the rural parts of India who go for years without having a proper house of their own.

In order to organize a better venture for them, the Andhra Pradesh government has initiated a new scheme that goes by the name AP YSR Pedalandariki Illu Scheme 2020.

What is the AP YSR Pedalandariki Illu Scheme 2020 all about?

The scheme is still in the pipelines and an official announcement of it will be made on the 25th of December 2020 which is also when its implementation will officially begin, however, this scheme is a housing scheme for the residents of Andhra Pradesh and brings in great news for those who have been struggling to get a concrete structure of their own to call it “home”.

The scheme is said to benefit 30.6 lakh beneficiaries across the entire state of Andhra Pradesh and there will be documents distributed for free house sites in the “litigation-free areas” of the state.

The budget sanction for the implementation of the scheme

On the 16th of June 2020, the Finance Minister of the Andhra Government formally introduced the budget of the state for the financial year 2020-21. One of the major highlights in the budget was the allocation of funds for the welfare of the needy people in the state of Andhra.

With the consequences of covid-19 lockdowns still not entirely washed from records, the government has given utmost priority to the welfare of the poor and marginalized people of Andhra. This year, for the implementation of the scheme, the government has sanctioned ₹3691.79 crores and it has specifically been earmarked for the welfare in the housing sector.

The AP YSR Pedalandariki Illu Scheme 2020 will be implemented in two phases. Under the first phase of AP YSR Pedalandariki Illu Scheme 2020, the construction will officially begin from the 25th of December 2020 and it is expected to continue well into the next years, more specifically till June 2022.

Under the second phase of implementation, the Housing scheme construction will carry out till June 2023.

In the first housing phase, around 15.1 lakh houses will be constructed and in the second phase, around 13 lakh houses will be constructed.

The approximate cost of construction of a single house is expected to be ₹1.80 lakh and these houses will be offered to the needy and the homeless free of cost.

Through the implementation of this scheme, the state of Andhra not only intends to offer housing solutions to the poor and needy of the state, but it also aims to boost the state’s economy through the organic generation of employment opportunities for millions of workers and labourers who have lately lost jobs due to the pandemic.
