The Karnataka Vidyagama Scheme 2020 is an educational scheme aimed at facilitating education at Government and private schools all across Karnataka. This scheme has been meted out by the Government of Karnataka to manage the present crisis of the pandemic Covid 19 and striking the right balance to bring back students to classrooms, by taking all the safety measures into account.

The Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Mr. Suresh Kumar announced the reintroduction of this scheme from 1st January 2021. Due to the pandemic situation students especially from Govt aided school lost out on education as there was no online education facility. The Minister had opined that the Vidyagama Scheme helps not only in spreading education but has also helped to reduce child marriages and child labor. Hence to cater to the needs of the student and to fulfill the aim of the Vigyama Scheme, which is to encourage students of class 1 to 10 to attend classes, this scheme has again been rolled out with a better management system and safeguard measures.

Features

  1. The scheme is not only limited to govt aided schools but also includes privately funded schools. The students would be able to attend their classes for half a day from the 1st of January 2021. This decision to reduce school hours has been taken, into consideration of the rampant spread of the pandemic.
  2. According to the new revised scheme the classes can be held inside the premises of the school but not inside a classroom. This rule has been imposed so that the students do not create a huddle inside a small classroom.
  3. Moreover, permission and consent from the parents have to be obtained for the student to attend classes at the school premises. This has become a mandatory rule for all the schools planning to start classes to procure prior written permission from the parents and guardians of the students.
  4. The number of students attending a single class would be 15 to a maximum number of 20. This has been put in place so that the students can avoid a crowd and maintain social distancing rules and regulations.
  5. The strict safety & hygiene guidelines provided by the Govt has to be followed while in school which includes washing hands, using sanitizer, wearing mask and gloves.
  6. The students attending classes would be undergoing thermal scanning to check the temperature and if there’s any sign of fever, the student would not be allowed to attend any more classes.
  7. As per Covid guidelines, if there is any symptom like sneezing, headache, fever cough, and cold to be found in any of the students, he or she would not be allowed to attend classes. The spread of pandemic can only be arrested by following these strict guidelines and hence this scheme emphasizes taking all the safeguarding measures and at the same time disseminate education and not deprive students of valuable study time.
  8. The timings and the schedule have been mentioned in the scheme. All the schools which hold classes for students in class 1 to 5 are supposed to divide class time from class 1 to 3 and 4 to 5 on alternate days.
