The Jharkhand Cyber Crime Prevention Scheme was launched by the Government of Jharkhand in the month of December of 2020. It was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Mr. Hemant Soren. The scheme aims at the control and prevention of cyber crimes to protect people especially women and children in the state. Due to digitization, information is freely available on the internet which can be misused by hackers and other criminals with malintent. Starting with photos, videos, personal data to bank account details, and fraudulent activities related to it, the internet has become a center of criminal activity. The way to tackle it is to impose stringent cyber laws. Hence this scheme is aimed at tackling such issues related to cybercrime in the state.

This scheme intends to help create a cyber safeguarding structure that will help the police to tackle cyber crimes in the state. The Chief Minister has stated that this scheme will be able to create a robust system of cyber protection instruments and would modernize the police system in the state. Under this scheme, capacity building, research and development, awareness creation, and most importantly cybercrime registration would be the main focus. Moreover, the Cyber Crime Prevention Against Women & Children Scheme (CCPWC) has a lot of important components, under the scheme, to facilitate the implementation like Forensic Unit, Awareness Creation Unit, Capacity Building Unit, Online Cyber Crime Reporting Unit, and Research & Development Unit.

Features

  1. Under the Jharkhand Cyber Crime Prevention Scheme 2020, children from different schools would be able to get trained in community policing. A number of schools have been selected to take part in this training program. Those children who will be selected for receiving training would be required to help police in combating cybercrimes in the state. Hence the scheme aims to smoothen the process of cybercrime reporting and act as a participatory medium to sensitize the youth of the state.
  2. The CCPWC states that the online registration of cybercrime would make it easy for people to make a complaint on the crime, the forensic unit would be responsible for the collection of evidence and conforming to IT Act and Evidence Act. Then again the police, judicial officers, and stakeholders would be required to undergo capacity-building programs. Moreover, scanning the internet and locating and solving cybercrimes requires a lot of IT-related research and development which would be the responsibility of the R&D unit. Lastly, the awareness creation unit would aim at building up a strong infrastructure of protection through knowledge dissemination through awareness campaigns held throughout the state in institutions.
  3. A dedicated helpline would be created to tackle the problem of cybercrime. The scheme not only aims to make reporting easy through online registration of complaints but also intends the safeguarding structure to act fast and promptly to a distressed victim of cybercrime. Hence the helpline is an important tool under the scheme. The website can also be used to reach the police in case of cybercrime.
